Chrysler to recall 37,000 Ram trucks

Chrysler to recall 37,000 Ram trucks

Chrysler's Ram division will recall 37,000 examples of its 2012 and 2013 model year full-size pickup trucks to rectify two separate issues.

The larger of the two recalls involves 30,000 Rams with a defective dashboard warning light designed to alert drivers that their tail lamps are inoperable. A software upgrade will be performed at no cost to owners at Chrysler's dealers, the automaker said. The recall applies to a select number of 2013 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 trucks.

Nearly all of the affected trucks, which include 1500, 2500 and 3500 models, are located in North America - 17,400 are in the United States, 11,500 in Canada and 470 in Mexico. The remaining 775 were delivered outside North America.

Separately, the Michigan automaker says that about 7,000 2012 Ram heavy duty 4500 and 5500 have a front axle issue that, under certain conditions, can cause the front prop shaft to bind up or crack. If that occurs, the vehicles could lose power. Chrysler says it is aware of two trucks that incurred front axle damage.

The fix involves replacement or repair of the front axles at no cost to owners.

No injuries or accidents have been linked to either issue, Chrysler says.
