GM to offer free RemoteLink access on most '14 vehicles

General Motors has announce that all of its 2014 model year vehicles equipped with OnStar will come with five free years of RemoteLink Mobile App access.

Previously only available with a free trial or paid subscription to OnStar, GM is rolling out a free version of its RemoteLink Mobile App for 36 of its 2014 models. The free period will last for five years.

The free RemoteLink app includes access to GM's popular Key Fob Services program. Through the Key Fob service, GM owners can remotely lock, unlock and start their vehicles from anywhere in the world where there is a WiFi or cellular signal.

“We know our customers value remote services,” said Mary Chan, president GM Global Connected Consumer. “GM owners request remote door unlock assistance through OnStar more than 60,000 times each month, so it makes sense for us to offer RemoteLink Key Fob Services to enable customers to lock, unlock or start their vehicle from anywhere they have a wireless or cellular connection.”

Other RemoteLink services, such as vehicle monitoring and navigation, remain limited to owners with a trial or paid OnStar subscription.

First introduced in 2010, GM's RemoteLink app has been downloaded more than 1.5 million times.
