Toyota recalling 87,000 hybrids for brake fault

Toyota has announced a new safety recall covering 87,000 units of its popular hybrid vehicles, including the Prius.

Toyota announced on Wednesday that it is recalling a combined 87,000 Toyota Prius and Lexus HS 250h hybrids from the 2010 model year due to a brake issue.

According to Toyota, the vehicles covered by the recall may have been equipped with a faulty brake pressure accumulator. Toyota says that one of the accumulator's internal parts may be susceptible to cracking overtime, which could lead to reduced braking efficiency.

Toyota has not received any complaints of crashes or injuries linked to the defect.

Toyota will notify owners over the next few weeks. The automaker will remedy the problem by checking the brake booster pump assembly and replacing any equipped with the faulty accumulator.
