2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray officially rated at 460hp

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray officially rated at 460hp

The numbers are officially in – Chevrolet's all-new 2014 Corvette Stingray will arrive on dealer lots with an SAE-certified 460 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque when fitted with an optional performance exhaust system.

Those that skip the performance exhaust options will have to get by with “just” 455 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque from the Stingray's all-new 6.2L LT1 V8 engine.

The LT1's performance figures translate to roughly 74 horsepower per liter, which bests the power density of both the last-generation C6's standard LS3 6.2L engine and the C6 Z06’s 7.0L LS7. The new LT1 engine is also within a stone's throw – 5 lb-ft – of the LS7's torque rating.

More importantly, 316 lb-ft of the Stingray's torque will be available from just 1,000 rpm, with 90 percent of maximum twist on tap between 3,000 and 5,500 rpm.

“The LT1’s performance complements the Corvette’s low mass with a tremendous feeling of power that builds as the rpm climbs," said Jordan Lee, Small Block chief engineer. "Drivers will experience more power and acceleration than ever before with the standard engine – in fact, its power and torque surpass many up-level engines offered by competitors.”

Official performance figures for the Corvette Stingray itself are not yet available, but Chevy promises the car will require fewer than 4 seconds to accelerate from 0-60.
