Rare Ferrari Sells for 10M Euros

1953 Ferrari 340/375 MM Berlinetta Competizione sells for 9,865,000 Euros at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. 

RM Auctions' Villa Erba auction took place over the weekend during the 2013 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’este, and the star of the sale was this 1953 Ferrari 340/370 MM Berlinetta that fetched 9,865,000 Euros. Beautifully restored and well-documented, it was one of three original 340/370 MM Competitzione cars that ran at the 1953 Le Mans 24 Hours, the livery for which it is wearing today, and is the only known Ferrari works car driven by three world champions: Alberto Ascari, Dr. Nino Farina, and Mike Hawthorn.

All three cars featured new Pinanfarina bodies derived from the 250 MM design and rode on 3450 MM chassis. Power came from a 340hp 4.5-liter V12 derived from the Ferrari 375 F1 racecar. Having participated in the 24 Hours of Spa, the Carrerara Panamericana and winning the 12 Hours of Pescara, it later led the life of a show car, decorated at numerous concours events including Pebble Beach and the Goodwood Revival. Alongside this exceptional competition-spec classic Ferrari, a 1962 Ferrari 400 Superamerica SWB Coupe Aerodinamico that went for 2,184,000 Euros.

Other notable sales at the weekend’s auction included a 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB that fetched 1,120,000 Euros and a 1967 Lamborghini Miura P400 which sold for 426,000 Euros.(Pictures courtesy of Tim Scott for RM Auctions).
