First batch of 2014 Equus sedans adrift at sea following ship mishap

The cargo ship carrying the first batch of 2014 Hyundai Equus sedans from Korea to the United States has broken down at sea, leaving the luxury cars adrift thousands of miles from their intended landing point.

Hyundai confirmed to USA Today on Monday that the cargo ship Morning Spruce, which is carrying the first 61 examples of the 2014 Equus sedan to the U.S., lost power and is currently adrift in the North Pacific. It is believed that the ship has been without power for the last five days.

Crews are currently working to repair the ship at sea. No timeframe has been given as to when the ship might be ready to steam on.

Hyundai says the shipping issue will delay the launch of the new Equus here in the United States, but the Korean automaker says there is no danger of losing the cargo.

The 2014 Equus, which debuted earlier this year at the New York auto show, features revised styling, a more luxurious interior and an updated chassis.
