BMW previews new M Power App

BMW previews new M Power App

BMW is set to launch an all-new iPhone app called the “M Power App,” which syncs with any BMW Apps-equipped car that allows for users to record and share laps times and other stats.

How does it work? Plug your smartphone into the car via the USB cable and hit record right before your track lap. After your lap is complete and you’ve unplugged your phone, you’re shown a scorecard screen. From there, you can go back through and monitor any number of stats, including both vehicle stats and lap times and top speeds.

BMW app designers have added in a feature allowing users to share lap information through social media or even email to another driver. When shared with another M Power Apps user, users can compare lap times and specs.

Unlike other vehicle track apps, like that in the Ford Mustang GT, the M Power App allows users to look at a satellite overview of their lap with virtual birds-eye view playback of the lap itself. The app also displays steering wheel input throughout the lap in the corner of the screen. Other statistical displays include; steering input, braking force, G-force, RPM, and fuel efficiency.

Should an M Power App user not be on a track in the app database, the app will generate a track map on the fly.

According to an M3 Post report, this innovative app should be available this summer in the Apple App Store. If in the meantime you want to get a better sense of the app, watch the video walkthrough below.
