Toyota unveils overseas-spec 2014 Corolla

Toyota unveils overseas-spec 2014 Corolla

Toyota has lifted the veil off of the overseas version of the 2014 Corolla that is scheduled to go on sale in Europe and in Australia early next year.

The biggest difference between the U.S.-spec version and the overseas version is that the latter wears a unique exterior design that swaps the U.S. model's aggressive lines for a more discreet and elegant look.  Up front, the sedan gains a chrome three-slat grille, a revised bumper with a smaller air intake and long, angular headlights that incorporate a row of LED daytime running lights.

Around back, the Corolla wears beefier tail lamps and a smoother trunk lid.  The two models share the same front and rear doors.

Both Corolla's cabins are nearly identical save for miscellaneous buttons, knobs and minor pieces of trim.

Full technical details are not available but European-spec car will be offered with a 1.8-liter gasoline-burning four-cylinder that sends 140 horsepower to the front wheels via either a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT.  A 90-horsepower 1.4-liter turbodiesel will likely be offered in select markets.

A full set of details about the overseas Corolla will be available in the weeks leading up to its on-sale date.
