Mercedes-Benz is recalling a small batch of its 2013 SLK250 and SLK350 roadsters due to an air bag fault.
Mercedes announced on Thursday that it is recalling SLK250 and SLK350 models produced between October 9, 2012, and November 20, 2012, because of a defect within the vehicles' air bag system. Mercedes says that the occupant classification system may incorrectly identify a very light person as a child seat.
If the system makes that mistake, the passenger's side air bag will not deploy in the event of crash severe enough to trigger the air bags, increasing the likelihood of injury.
No injuries or accidents have been linked to the recall, which covers just 71 vehicles in the United States.
Mercedes will remedy the flaw by replacing the passenger side seat cushion, including the occupant classification system. Mercedes will notify owners about the recall sometime this month.
