Range Rover diesel-hybrid U.S.-bound?

Range Rover diesel-hybrid U.S.-bound?

Land Rover will sell a version of its diesel-hybrid Range Rover in the United States after all, a new report finds.

Late last year Land Rover confirmed that a diesel-hybrid version of its all-new Range Rover flagship would debut sometime during 2013, but at the time the efficient model was only confirmed for the European market. However, changing regulations and a growing acceptance of diesel engines has apparently convinced Land Rover to sell the Range Rover hybrid in the U.S.

According to Edmunds, Land Rover will begin selling the diesel-hybrid version of the Range Rover in the United States in about two years. The SUV will make its debut at this fall's Frankfurt Motor Show and hit the European market shortly thereafter.

Land Rover's change in stance stems from Europe's upcoming Euro 6 emissions standards, due to take effect in September 2014. The new Euro 6 standards will bring Europe's regulations in line with those in place in the U.S., allowing the British automaker to bring the car here without much extra effort.

Diesels have also been growing in popularity here in the U.S. – particularly within the luxury car segment – and Land Rover doesn't want to be a late adopter.

In addition to the Range Rover hybrid, Land Rover is also considering V6 and V8 diesel engines for the U.S. market.
