Acura TSX facing uncertain future

Acura TSX facing uncertain future

Time could be running out for the Acura TSX. The compact sedan is already being squeezed from both sides by the slightly smaller ILX and marginally larger TL, and now comes word that the TSX could be without a future platform.

Acura maintains that the TSX will remain in its lineup "for the foreseeable future," but the writing could be on the wall for the sporting four-door. The TSX's wheelbase is less than an inch an half longer than Acura's entry-level ILX, and a redesigned TL – due out next year – will shrink closer to the TSX's footprint in order to clear room for the larger RLX flagship sedan.

As if that sibling rivalry wasn't enough to drive the TSX from the Acura lineup, the sedan is also facing an uncertain future on the platform front, according to Automotive News.

The TSX is based on the Euro-market Accord, which has seen its sales slide in recent years. It seems unlikely that Honda would update the Euro-Accord's aging platform given its flagging sales, making the TSX an architecture orphan.

Acura has confirmed to dealers that a 2014 version of the TSX will arrive this September, but nothing has been mentioned beyond that.
