Aston Martin recalls five models over throttle pedal defect

Aston Martin recalls five models over throttle pedal defect

The discovery of an accelerator defect during a media event has led British sports car maker Aston Martin to call back nearly 3,000 cars worldwide.

In a notice posted on the NHTSA’s website, the automaker stated that an internal investigation, sparked by a report of a fractured throttle pedal arm at a media event, led to the revelation that a supplier had used “a plastic material that was not in accordance with the Aston Martin design specification” for pedal assemblies.

Due to that faulty plastic material, the throttle pedal arm is at risk to break without warning.

"So far, we have been unable to predict which parts will fail, but we suspect the broken parts had been subjected to heavy use," Aston Martin said.

Affected vehicles include 2012-2014 DB9, DBS, Rapide, V12 Vantage, V8 Vantage Coupe and Virage models. The recall involves 689 Astons in the United States, and a further 2,143 in other markets.

Aston Martin will set the problem right by replacing the throttle assemblies free of charge. A start date for the recall has not yet been scheduled.
