Toyota unveils family-oriented sports car concept

Toyota will attend the International Tokyo Toy Show to display its latest concept, a topless, family-oriented sports car called Camatte57s.

Stretching 118 inches long, 56 inches wide and just 39 inches tall, the concept's body consists of 57 lightweight detachable panels that make it easy to assemble at home and a breeze to customize.  Owners can quickly transform the Camatte57s from a Lotus Seven-lookalike to a more aggressive racer without needing special tools or a vast experience in the field of bodywork.

Inside, the car offers room for three passengers in an innovative triangle configuration that makes it possible to mount the two rows of seats close together without sacrificing rear leg room.  The pedals are adjustable so that the car can be driven by children on go-kart tracks and other private venues, and the adult passenger sitting in the rear right corner is able to reach the controls in case of an emergency.

The Camatte57s is powered by an electric drivetrain but precise technical details are not known.

Toyota has not confirmed this but the Camatte57s is undoubtedly a show car that will not see the light that awaits at the end of a production line.

What's in a name?

The name camatte is derived from the Japanese word for care and the s at the end stands for sawaru, which means "to touch."  The car aims to promote interaction between family members by making driving accessible to all ages.
