Range Rover Sport sets new Pikes Peak record

Range Rover Sport sets new Pikes Peak record

Land Rover's all-new Range Rover Sport has set a new record for the Pikes Pike International Hill Climb course. The Range Rover Sport broke the production SUV record for the famous course.

A Range Rover Sport with Land Rover's 510 horsepower supercharged 5.0L V8 engine and stunt driver Paul Dallenbach behind the wheel managed to ascend the 12.42 mile course in just 12 minutes 35.61 seconds, good for an average speed of 59.17 mph. That record-setting time was verified by Pikes Peak International Hill Climb organizers.

"There's no margin for error at Pikes Pike - you only need to misjudge one of those 156 turns and you're into the trees or over the edge of the mountain,” Dallenbach said. “To take on this place the way I did today, you need complete confidence in your vehicle, and the Range Rover Sport sure gave me that - it's fast, responsive and agile.”

Those 156 turns Dallenbach mentioned weave through 4,720 feet of elevation change.

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb race, widely known as 'The Race To the Clouds', will take place on June 30.
